Oscar M Galvan

 

 

Oscar Galvan was born in Eagle Pass, Texas.   In the 1950s and 1960s, he and his family migrated from Texas to Washington and Idaho, settling in Washington state.   At the age of 13, Oscar started playing Tejano music with local groups in the Yakima area.   Oscar played conjunto and orquestra Tejano music.  Oscar Galvan plays several musical instrument such as bass, drums, keys,  trombone, trumpet and his main instrument which is the Saxophone (Tenor and Alto).   In the 1970s, after crossing in to Mexico and playing with artist such as Lorenzo de MonteClaro, Hector MonteMayor, Los Apollo and other various groups,  Oscar formed his own group, La Nueva Imagen.   Oscar was part of several  local popular groups such as Los Brillantes, Tierra Mala, Orquestra Salazar.   Oscar toured the northwest and norther California with his own group.   Oscar performed in local Yakima Valley dance halls such as La Puerta Negra, El Baile Grande, La Tropicana, Pasco Community Center, Seattle Center, El Guadalajara in Seattle, Idaho Salon Mexico etc.    Oscar Performed amoungst great Tejano groups such as Los Kasinos, Los Classicos, Brown Express etc. Oscar currently lives in San Antonio, Texas and continues to play amoung and with groups such as Ruben Ramos and the Mexican Revolution, Raulito Navaira, Amistad Band and Starlight Band etc..

 

Accomplishments: 

-Inducted in to the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame 2015 in Alice, Texas

-Tejano Music Association Red Carpet honoree 2012 in San Antonio, Texas

-Vice President-Pacific Northwest Tejano Music Association in Sunnyside,WA

 -Performed for the National GI Forum Conference, USO,  LULAC, Radio Campesina  and KDNA

-Performed for MECHA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán) fund raisers at various Colleges and      Universities throughout the state of Washington and Idaho.

Performed in various venues in Texas such as Fiesta Days in San Antonio, TTMA FanFare,  Domingo Live show in Corpus Christi, Tejano y Mas show in San Antonio, Johnny Canales show, etc.  

-Tejano Radio Program Manager/DJ:   Promoting Tejano Music  (1973-83 weekdays) KENE Radio in Toppenish, Washington and (1974-83 Sundays) KREW Radio in Sunnyside, Washington.

-Honoree music performer at the San Antonio Raul Jimenez Community Thanksgiving Free Luncheon (serving elderly, homeless, families and children in need).

Oscar’s legacy continues with his musically talented son’s performing  with Tejano artists like Gary Hobbs Esteban Jordan Joel Guzman and Little Joe y la familia throughout the state of Texas.
